The sacred Mahakumbh Mela is about to begin, bringing millions of devotees to the holy confluence. Here’s your comprehensive guide to navigating the traffic arrangements during this grand spiritual gathering.
When Does It Begin?
The Mahakumbh Mela kicks off on January 13, with Kalpvasis (long-term pilgrims) already making their way to the sacred grounds before the official start. The authorities have meticulously planned traffic routes to accommodate these early arrivals. Check Important dates
Special Route for Kalpvasis
If you’re traveling from Kanpur, Lucknow, or Pratapgarh, there’s a designated route mapped out for you. The journey takes you through Malak Harhar, winding through Teliyarganj and Mazar Chauraha, before leading you across the Old GT Pontoon Bridge to reach Sector 18 in the Kalpvas area.
Understanding the No-Vehicle Zones
During main bathing (Snan) days, vehicular movement will be strictly regulated. Here’s what you need to know:
For regular main Snan days, a three-day vehicle restriction will be in place – the day before, during, and after the main Snan. The Mauni Amavasya Snan, being particularly significant, will see a four-day restriction period, starting two days before the event.
The Three Super Zones
The entire Mela campus has been thoughtfully divided into three super zones:
- Parade (City)
- Jhunsi
- Arail
Each zone has carefully planned entry and exit routes, with different paths designated for various modes of transport – whether you’re arriving by bus, train, or private vehicle.
Daily Traffic Management
On regular days, seven different traffic routes will be operational, with dedicated parking areas for vehicles of all sizes. While pedestrians can move freely in urban areas, the Mela grounds will maintain one-way traffic to prevent congestion.
Adaptive Management
The authorities are prepared for all scenarios. In case of excessive crowding, the SSP of Mahakumbh Mela holds the authority to implement immediate traffic diversions based on ground situations.
Important Tips for Visitors
- Park only in designated parking spots or institutional parking areas
- Follow traffic police instructions carefully
- Plan your visit according to the vehicle restriction schedules
- Consider using public transportation during peak days
- Keep track of your designated zone and corresponding routes
This traffic management plan aims to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience for all devotees attending this sacred gathering. Stay informed and plan your journey accordingly.
